NYU Motorsports

  • A dynamic team of engineers, creators, and leaders who design and build the best off-road vehicles in NYC to compete against other universities.

The goal of NYU Motorsports is to bring together a group of creative and curious individuals to design and build experimental vehicles at the cutting edge of performance. Competing in both BAJA SAE and Formula E SAE, NYU Motorsports utilizes a combination of fundamental engineering theories, student experiences, as well as advanced concepts geared specifically towards automotive engineering to design and build competitive racing vehicles. In addition to engineering, we also have a dedicated operations team whose goal is to support us in our journey to build and race our vehicles. They aim to maintain a strong social media presence, connect with other SAE teams, and fundraise to make this whole project possible.


Baja SAE and Formula E SAE are separate collegiate engineering competitions by SAE International, focusing on off-road and formula-style racing vehicles. Baja SAE centers on designing durable vehicles for rough terrains, emphasizing endurance and ruggedness with a standard engine. Formula E SAE focuses on high-speed, aerodynamic cars for track racing, highlighting innovation in vehicle dynamics and performance. While Baja SAE tests off-road capability, Formula E SAE challenges students on speed and efficiency, both reflecting distinct engineering and design challenges.
