Designing, fabricating and constructing a 20 foot long bridge for an annual competition where it is load tested with 2500 pounds

NYU Steel Bridge is a student-led Vertically Integrated Project dedicated to designing, fabricating, and constructing a 20-foot steel bridge capable of supporting 2,500 lbs with minimal deflection and a 50 lb lateral load. The team competes in the Regional Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC), hosted by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), aiming to qualify for the National Finals.
The project integrates classroom knowledge with real-world engineering, utilizing SAP2000 for structural analysis and OnShape for modeling and shop drawings. Fabrication involves hands-on work such as cutting, grinding, and welding, while the construction phase requires strategic planning and practice for competition.
Notable achievements include 6th place in the 2021 National Finals and 2nd place in the 2024 Metropolitan Regional Student Steel Bridge Competition.
