If you are wondering which teams are looking out for you, take a look at the current needs for particular majors from NYU Tandon:

VIP Openings

Even if your major is not listed, you are encouraged to still apply to the teams that interest you! VIP Teams review applications and accept students from ALL majors at NYU.

VIP Team applications are open for Spring 2022!

Application Timeline

All NYU students can join a VIP Team by enrolling in a VIP course. VIP Teams will accept new students at the beginning of each semester. Applications are always open for submissions, although there is a recommended timeline:

Applications open when registration begins for the upcoming semester. If you know what teams you are interested in, apply early! You can apply to as many teams as you like, then choose one team to join and enroll. VIP Teams usually notify accepted students via email before the semester begins. To check on the status of your application, feel free to email the VIP team. If no contact information is listed for a team, email

VIP Recruitment Week (First full week of classes). If you want to find out more about the program and teams before applying, VIP hosts a general Info Session and VIP teams each host open meetings and special recruitment sessions for prospective students to connect directly with the teams.

Last day to enroll in VIP is the same as the NYU registration Add/Drop deadline. Check the NYU Academic Calendar

Apply and Enroll

All students apply to join a VIP team using the "Apply to this Team" link on each VIP team page. The applications are generally similar for all teams (Example VIP Application). When a student is accepted to a VIP team, they will receive enrollment instructions and a permission code via email from the VIP team.

Notes for Applicants:

  • New students are primarily selected based on motivation, interest, and commitment toward the project expressed through the application.
  • Most applications are accepted, unless the team is full.
  • Contact the VIP team directly, or, to follow-up regarding an application.

Variable Credit Structure:

The VIP Program operates on a variable credit structure in which all new students and most returning students enroll for one (1) credit per semester. Students who grow into positions of leadership and specialization may enroll for two (2) credits per semester. Read more about the credit policies for VIP.
