What Twitter's outage says about (over) zealous downsizing

While Twitter’s February 2023 outage affected relatively few Twitter users, it could hold a larger message about the dangers to security for organizations mulling big cuts in their workforces. Associate Professor Justin Cappos, affiliated with NYU Tandon's Center for Cybersecurity and Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications, used a sports analogy comparing the layoffs to firing a coach. While you may not see negative effects immediately, “a month later [you] start to take a hit, and then the wheels start to fall off. That’s what’s happening; he has fired people who are doing the work that keeps this large distributed service running.”
