Top Honors: Fitzgibbons Player of the Year in Softball

BROOKLYN, NY -  The Skyline Conference announced Tuesday that NYU-Poly sophomore Corine Fitzgibbons (Brooklyn, NY) has been voted the Player of the Year in women's softball by the coaches.

Fitzgibbons led NYU-Poly back to the Skyline Championships this season, after winning them last year. The Lady Jays lost a tough 3-2 game to Farmingdale in the finals.

On the season, the third and first-baseman, led the league in home runs with nine, RBI (44), and was second in both doubles (14) and slugging with an .822 mark. She was third in on-base percentage (.528) and fourth in runs scored (39) all while boasting a .416 average at the plate.

Teams respected her bat leading to her being walked 24 times, second only to her teammate Shelby Bruns (29).

Also making the Skyline first-team for NYU-Poly was freshmen designated player Megan Moran (Reno, NV). Two Lady Jays rounded out the second team as freshmen catcher Christi Bruin (Auburn, WA) and freshmen outfielder Sadie Hoeschen (Huntington Beach, CA) were selected by the coaches.

Moran had a strong first season at the plate finishing second on team in batting average (.405), home runs (6), and RBI (29) all behind Fitzgibbons.

Bruin had a stand-out season behind the plate, catching the majority of the games for the Lady Jays. She ended the season with a .977 fielding percentage and 125 putouts.   At the plate she ended with 13 doubles, which was in the top 10 of the conference and second on the team

Hoeschen completed a strong season in the outfield and at the plate. She finished third in home runs (4), which included a two home run performance against St. Josephs. She ended up third in slugging and fourth in batting average on the team

The Lady Jays ended the season in second in the conference and an overall mark of 23-15.
