Three Fighting Blue Jays Honored by Skyline Conference

Merilli, Krasny, and Doherty earn weekly awards


Clifton Park, NY -  The Skyline Conference weekly report was filled with Fighting Blue Jays as freshmen Miranda Merilli was tabbed Pitcher of the Week for softball, while NYU-Poly swept the men's tennis awards as sophomore Yan Krasny was selected as Player of the Week, while freshmen Connor Doherty was chosen as Rookie of the Week.

Krasny improved to 4-0 in both singles and doubles play on the season with two victories in each, last week. The Fighting Blue Jays picked up a 5-4 victory over Purchase as Krasny teamed with Doherty for an 8-2 doubles victory. He then cruised 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. In a 6-3 victory over Baruch, Krasny and teammate Anton Fyodorov won 8-6 at first doubles. He then won 6-2, 6-3 at first singles. Krasny has not dropped a set in singles.

Doherty was impressive in his collegiate debut last week. He picked up singles and doubles victories against both Purchase and Baruch. He prevailed 6-1, 6-2 at third singles against Purchase. Against Baruch, he trailed 4-0 in the opening set at third singles before rallying for a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

 Merilli went 4-0 this past week, including a three straight Skyline Conference wins against Farmingdale and Old Westbury (2). Her 2-0, 6-hit shutout against Farmingdale was a pivotal game for NYU-Poly, for Skyline supremacy. She recorded 30 strikeouts while allowing just three earned runs and 18 hits. She is now 7-4 overall on the season and 3-0 in the conference.
