Robert Prieto '77 Honored as Distinguished Alumnus at NYU-Poly's 156th Commencement
On Monday, May 23, 2011, the Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association honored Mr. Robert Prieto of the Class of 1977, by presenting him with the Distinguished Alumnus Award during NYU-Poly's Commencement ceremony.
The most prestigious award presented to a Polytechnic alumnus, the Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to an individual who has distinguished themself through their career and who has made a lasting impact on the world through their application of i2e.
A Nuclear Engineering graduate, Mr. Prieto is currently a Senior Vice President for Fluor Corporation, one of America’s largest engineering, construction and project management organizations.
At Fluor, Mr. Prieto is responsible for strategy in support of the firm’s Industrial & Infrastructure Group and its key clients. He focuses on the development and delivery of large, complex projects worldwide. He is a member of the executive committee of the National Center for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, a member of the board of directors of the Business Council on International Understanding, a member of the board of the Civil Engineering Forum for Innovation, and co-founder and member of the board of the Disaster Resource Network.
Mr. Prieto serves on the National Research Council’s committee framing the challenges on Critical Infrastructure Systems. He served as a Presidential appointee to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Advisory Council and served as chairman of the Engineering and Construction Governors of The World Economic Forum. He was co-chair of the infrastructure task force formed after September 11th by the New York City Chamber of Commerce and has extensive experience with programs associated with planning for and responding to natural disasters.
