Provost's Faculty Spotlight: Rose T. Faghih

Associate Professor Rose Faghih’s NSF CAREER-funded MINDWATCH project is developing smartwatch technology to monitor and regulate a wearer’s cognitive arousal and performance.

With support from an NIH Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award, she is also building HEALTHWATCH, wearable sensors that track inflammation, fatigue, and metabolism, and MINDCAM, which uses eye-tracking cameras to decode a person’s awareness of their own internal body signals.

Faghih has turned student projects in her Neural and Physiological Signal Processing course into peer-reviewed publications. When a cortisol sensor she planned to build on never materialized during her postdoc, she developed a broader research agenda, which led to her selection as one of MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35. “As an academic, I have the freedom to formulate problems that are transformative and offer real-world impact,” she said.
