NYU-Poly Falls to NYU in NCAA First Round

Violets overmatch Jays 3-0

Manhattan, NY -  The NYU-Poly women's volleyball team knew they had to bring their A game, as they squared off against New York University in the NCAA Tournament First Round Thursday night at the Cole Center. Unfortunately, for Polytechnic, NYU brought their A game, as well, and the end result was a 25-15, 25-12, 25-14, three set victory for the Violets.

The Jays fell behind in both the first and second matches and never held the lead in either set. But, in the third set, NYU-Poly jumped out to a 8-6 lead, before watching NYU roll off a 17-6 run, including 15 of the final 17 points to seal the game and the match. NYU advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they will face Christopher Newport (VA) who defeated Steven's Tech, 3-2,  in the earlier match.

Meredith Shipman and Victoria Kalvert each had six kills for NYU-Poly.  Jacqueline Johnson led with 15 assists, while Shipman and Corey Loupee each had seven digs. The Jays end their season at 25-10, while NYU improves to 29-9 overall. Seniors Johnson and Colette Corrica both played in their final match for NYU-Poly.
