NYU-Poly and Baruch Split in Softball Action
Falls Short in Game Two Comeback; 5-3
BROOKLYN, NY - Despite a strong effort in game two of their double-header with Baruch College, the NYU-Poly softball team fell short of a sweep in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon. After NYU-Poly bashed the Bearcats in game one 10-1 in five innings, Baruch held off a seventh inning rally by the Lady Jays to hold on for a 5-3 win.
In game one, sophomore Miranda Merilli (Altoona, PA) tossed a gem for her second win of the season. Sophomore Corine Fitzgibbons (Brooklyn, NY) went 3-for-3 in the game, driving in three runs and scoring three. Freshmen Christi Bruin (Auburn, WA) also had three RBI when she smacked a double.
In game two, freshmen Brianna Feist (San Diego, CA) had a strong performance of her own, but a pair of errors by NYU-Poly in Baruch's three-run fourth inning didn't help the cause.
Fitzgibbons made it exciting with a two-out, single that brought in a pair of NYU-Poly runners. But, that would be all that the Lady Jays would get as freshmen Megan Moran (Reno, NV) flied out to deep center to end the rally.
NYU-Poly is now 5-9 overall while Baruch is now 2-6 overall.
