Institute Associate Professor Julia Stoyanovich, Director of the NYU Center for Responsible AI, discussed the laws, ethics, and leadership models that are struggling to keep pace with AI’s breakneck evolution. As the world’s most powerful economies take different approaches, executives and policymakers contend with prioritizing speed or responsibility in developing and deploying AI tools. “We need to make sure when these systems are used — particularly in critical domains like healthcare, banking and hiring — there is a human there who is able to ultimately take responsibility for the decision or action that they make with the help of this tool,” said Stoyanovich.
