Lady Blue Jays dominate Brooklyn, improve to 3-2


Brooklyn, NY - The NYU-Poly women's volleyball team wasted little time in their non-conference match against neighboring Brooklyn College, sweeping the Bridges in straight sets, 3-0. Meredith Shipman (Sugarland, TX / Elkins HS) led NYU-Poly with 10 kills, while teammate Melissa Pona (Staten Island, NY /  Staten Island Tech) laced five service aces against Brooklyn in Thursday nights match.

Freshmen Nicole Breitbart (Ridgewood NJ / Ridgewood HS) paced Poly with 22 assists, while senior Jacquelyn Johnson (Houston, TX / Mirabeau B. Lamar HS) had a team-high nine digs, along with three aces off serve.  The Fighting Blue Jays won the first set 25-7, the Bridges made it a little more exciting in the second set before falling 25-13. NYU-Poly, which made only four team errrors all match, put the game away in the third, crushing Brooklyn 25-11.

NYU-Poly heads up north this weekend, as they visit Roger Williams college for a quad-match against RWU, Rivier College, and the University of New England. NYU-Poly opens up against UNE on Saturday at 11:00am, followed by RWU and Rivier at 1:00 and 3:00 respectively.
