Jays Fly High on Senior Day
Women's Basketball Pounds Purchase 71-34
BROOKLYN, NY - It was Senior Day for the NYU-Poly women's basketball team Saturday when they hosted Purchase College in a Skyline Conference match up. With a win, the Lady Jays would secure a second place finish for the regular season and receive a first round bye in the upcoming playoffs - all while honoring their lone senior member Kristin Leitheuser (Pleasant Valley, NY).
When it was all said and done, it was the senior who led the way in making sure of that first round bye, as Leitheuser racked up a game-high 19 points and eight assists to lead NYU-Poly to a 71-34 win over the Lady Panthers.
Freshmen Tabitha Larsen (Ramsey, NJ) added 16 points and six assists while junior Margaux Pickell (Howell, NJ) ended the regular season just like she started it with another double-double, this time 14 points and 14 boards. Sophomore Shelby Bruns rounded out the double digit contributors with 11 points to go with nine rebounds, seven on the defensive glass.
NYU-Poly will host their semi-final contest on Thursday at 7:00pm against the winner of the 3rd seed vs the sixth seed match up which will be played on Tuesday at Farmingdale. It could set up a thrilling rematch of Friday night's 48-47 win over the Rams at Jacobs Gymnasium.
