Honors Flying in For NYU-Poly Softball
10 Lady jays tabbed Skyline All-Conference
Clifton Park, NY - Skyline Conference Commissioner Tracy King announced today that the NYU-Poly softball team received 8 out of 12 First-Team All-Conference spots and one Second-Team All-Conference nod, as well as awarding Shelby Bruns (Elko, NV) as Rookie of the Year and head coach Jimmy Barrett as Coach of the Year. The team also received the Sportsmanship Award.
Farmingdale's Nicole Farber was named Player of the Year, edging out NYU-Poly's freshmen 1st baseman Corinne Fitzgibbons (Brooklyn, NY) while Lady Rams teammate Hope Zino was honored as Pitcher of the Year.
First-team nods went to NYU-Poly's Miranda Merilli (Altoona, PA) at pitcher, Natalia Stockinger (Putnam Valley, NY) at catcher, Fitzgibbons at 1st base, Kate Jo Sunday (West Lawn, PA) at 2nd base, Bruns at shortstop, and senior captain Ryan Graybill (Missouri City, TX) at 3rd base. For Graybill, that completes a four-year sweep of 1st-Team All-Conference at 3rd base; the first softball player to do so in program history.
Senior outfielder Natasha Taylor (Portland, ME) and designated hitter/outfielder Anna Marie Smith (Henderson, NV) rounded out the first-team nods. At second-team, junior outfielder Tara Bucci (Montgomery, NJ) completed the Fighting Blue Jays awards.
Head Coach Jimmy Barrett received the Coach of the Year Award, guiding his team to it's best-ever mark of 31-9 and first-ever Skyline Title and NCAA berth. In 2007, Barrett received the NEAC Coach of the Year for leading that Lady Jay squad to the title, but the NEAC did not have an automatic bid and Polytechnic did not qualify for an at-large bid.
