Having ADHD and living in a smaller city might increase obesity risk: study
A research team led by Institute Professor Maurizio Porfiri found ADHD increases obesity risk through impulsivity-driven overeating and reduced physical activity, but larger cities provide protection. Ph.D. student Tian Gan noted: "Our research reveals a surprising urban advantage: as cities grow, both obesity and ADHD rates decrease proportionally." The study of 915 US cities showed bigger urban areas offer better mental health access, education, and physical activity opportunities.
