Global Companies Tap NYU Tandon Online Engineering Programs to Give Tech Employees Critical Skills
Pfizer, M&T Bank, and Food Retailer Ahold USA to Offer their Workers Master’s Degree Studies in Cybersecurity, Bioinformatics, and Management of Technology
The NYU Tandon School of Engineering announced that Pfizer, Dutch retail giant Ahold, and M&T Bank join a growing list of financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, and other corporations seeking to attract and retain skilled talent through Tandon Online education programs.
“Global organizations increasingly recognize the need to provide education in complex technical areas such as cybersecurity, bioinformatics, and management of technology,” said Jay VanDerwerken, senior managing director of NYU Tandon’s Enterprise Learning. More than 130 graduate-level and certificate classes are offered for employee education and development by Tandon Online, the school’s virtual learning arm. Even before M&T Bank began supporting master’s degree education at NYU Tandon, the school’s presence in the financial sector was already strong, with Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon turning to its online offerings for employee graduate education in critical skills.
Ninety-six percent of the school’s online students complete their online courses, and 89 percent earn their graduate degrees. By comparison, a National Council of Graduate Schools study found an average completion rate of 66 percent for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics master’s degree programs.
Tandon Online students are taught by experienced professors who embrace special techniques of effective online education: 95 percent of online faculty returns to teach again. A recent survey of graduates revealed 100 percent job placement within six months of graduation; for those already holding jobs, 40 percent reported they received a promotion or raise within the same period.
NYU Tandon’s online courses are delivered in active learning modules, which engage students in interactive learning sessions. Online students get unlimited access to lectures, 24/7, from anywhere in the world. During real-time webinars, students participate in live Q&A sessions. With their instructor and fellow students, they share ideas using video, screen-sharing, chat rooms, and interactive polling over built-in phone and VOIP lines. High-quality video, audio, multimedia, and animation engage students. NYU encourages weekly live sessions, prompting peer-to-peer learning.
