Final Second Falter; Jays Lose to Yeshiva

Mens Basketball Drops to 0-7


BROOKLYN, NY - Down 60-57 with just over 10 seconds to play, the NYU-Poly men's basketball team found itself one shot away from sending their Skyline Conference game with Yeshiva University to overtime. But, senior Eddie Johnson's (Queens, NY) three point shot with 10.9 seconds left was just off the mark and the Maccabees converted their final two free throws for the 62-57 conference win Monday night in the Jacobs Gymnasium.

Senior Anthony Mottola (Brooklyn, NY) led NYU-Poly with a game-high 19 points including seven points in a five minute span to cut Yeshiva's 11 point lead with 8:40 to play down to one, 54-53, with 3:08 to play. He also added 10 boards for the double-double performance.

Johnson added 10 for the Jays, while junior John Martin (Brooklyn, NY) added 11 points before fouling out. Yeshiva was led by Gil Bash's 18 points, while Chen Biron added 15 and Dovie Hoffman threw in another 14 to pace the Macs.

Yeshiva shot 20-of-26 from the free throw line, while NYU-Poly shot just 5-for-13. The Jays were out rebounded 35-34, while committing fewer turnovers (11) then Yeshiva (15).

NYU-Poly will travel to Farmingdale Thursday for another Skyline Conference tilt. Game time is set for 8:00pm, following the womens contest.
