Comeback Sparks Sweep For Baseball

NYU-Poly Take a Pair From Maritime

BROOKLYN, NY -  Things looked gloomy for the NYU-Poly baseball team in game one of Sunday's Skyline Conference double-header against Maritime College. Down 12-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Jays offense exploded for six runs each in the seventh and eighth to tie the game at 13-13 headed into the ninth.

Maritime would take the lead in the top of the last inning, but with one out and runners at second and third, sophomore Dave Wolfinger (Chalfort, PA) poked a single to right scoring the pair and sending NYU-Poly to its first win of the season. Freshmen Nathan Albers (Burbank, CA) and Chris Giamarino (Placentia, CA) scored the runs, with Giamarino narrowly sliding under the tag of the Maritime catcher for the game-winner.

Sophomore Anthony Finch (Manhattan, NY), who came into the game in the ninth, picked up the win.

Albers had two hits and scored three run, while Finch had a big three-run triple in the eighth to tie the game at 13-13.

The Jays, behind a strong pitching performance from freshmen Christian Conroy (Flushing, NY), held on in game two to win 10-7. Freshmen Julian Santulli (Staten Island, NY) was perfect at the plate going 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Sophomore Sal DeVito (Pequannock, NJ) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Albers drove in a pair and scored a pair to help the Jays.

The Jays improve to 2-2 in the Skyline and 2-10 overall. Maritime falls to 1-5 in the conference and 7-7 overall.
