NYU Tandon’s C2SMARTER – a U.S. Department of Transportation Tier 1 University Transportation Center – is embarking on a one-year project with FDNY to analyze the travel times for emergency vehicles. Institute Associate Professor and Deputy Director of C2SMARTER Joseph Chow, is leading the team’s creation of a “Digital Twin,” a virtual model of neighborhood traffic patterns. “Given the decisions that emergency response teams make in sending out vehicles for an incident, we want to help them make predictions about whether or not a particular route they take or a certain strategy in dispatching different types of units can help or hinder their operations.”
