Battle of the "Jays" goes to NYU-Poly


Staten Island, NY -  The Fighting Blue Jays women's tennis squad defeated John Jay Sunday afternoon 7-2. NYU-Poly won five of the singles matches and two doubles contests to cruise to the non-conference victory over the Bloodhounds.

It was NYU-Poly (3-4, Skyline 1-3)  who was smelling blood throughout the contest as Ariel Zeig, Rebecca Sandora, and Ashmeet Kaur all rolled to big two set victories, while Cheri Jiou had a tough fought 6-2, 6-4 win. But the highlight of the contest went to Stephanie Weldon, who after losing set one 6-7 (5-7), stormed back to win in set two, 6-3,  after being even at  3-3. Then, in dramatic fashion overcame an 0-6 start in the super tie-breaker to win 11-9.

NYU-Poly also won two out of the three doubles matches, as Zeig and Weldon defeated John Jay's first doubles 8-2 while Sandora and Jiou took out the Bloodhounds second doubles team 8-6. NYU-Poly is back in action with a conference match against Farmingdale on Tuesday.
