NYU-Poly Finishes California Trip
SAN MARCOS, CA - The NYU-Poly softball team finished its spring break trip in California on Thursday. Unfortunately, the last day of competition saw only six hits in the two games and just one run as NYU-Poly fell to Cal Stat-San Marcos 8-0 and Hope International 6-1. NYU-Poly will return home with a record of 3-7.
In game one, NYU-Poly, which lost to CSUSM 9-0 three days earlier, fell behind 7-0 after three innings and never really got going as just two Lady Jays recorded hits. Sophomore Natalia Stockinger (Putnam Valley, NY) and freshmen Brianna Feist (San Diego, CA) tallied the two hits for NYU-Poly. Feist was tagged with the loss, giving up eight runs and six hits. She struck out five and walked six.
In game two, the Lady Jays jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout from sophomore Corine Fitzgibbons (Brooklyn, NY) that plated sophomore Shelby Bruns (Elko, NV). But, that would be all the offense NYU-Poly would produce as Hope scored twice in the third, once in the fourth, and three times in the fifth off of starter sophomore Miranda Merilli (Altoona, PA). NYU-Poly had beaten Hope three days earlier by a 4-2 margin.
NYU-Poly will be back in action next Wednesday as they travel to Ramapo College for a non-conference double-header at 3:00pm.
