Baseball Falls Short in Comeback Effort

Mount Saint Mary Sweeps Skyline Contest

OLD WESTBURY, NY-  The NYU-Poly baseball team concluded its Skyline Conference schedule Tuesday afternoon with a double-header against Mount Saint Mary. The games were played at Old Westbury due to field conditions.

In the first game, the Jays were trailing 4-2 going into the top of the third. With two outs, Mount Saint Mary capitalized on several Jay miscues to put an eight spot in the frame and never looked back, winning 17-2.

Game two was much different, as sophomore starting pitcher Sal DeVito (Pequannock, NJ) had a strong performance throwing a complete game. He allowed just two earned runs on 13 hits.

However, the Jays bats were silent until the final inning.  Down 4-0 and with one out, sophomore Anthony Finch (New York, NY) doubled off the fence. Freshmen Julian Santulli (Staten Island, NY) followed with a walk.

Freshmen Nathan Albers (Burbank, CA) followed with another double off the center field fence, plating Finch, but Santulli was thrown out at the plate.

With two outs, sophomore Dave Wolfinger (Chalfort, PA) added another NYU-Poly (3-21, 3-13 Skyline) double to score Albers. But, that would be all the closer the Jays would get, as they fell short 4-2.

The Jays host St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Saturday for a non-conference double-header. Mount Saint Mary enters the Skyline playoffs tomorrow against Old Westbury.
