Assistant Professor Bridger Ruyle called wastewater recycling one of the most economical solutions to water scarcity in drought-stricken regions, but cautioned that the environmental tradeoffs — including the risk of disturbing heavy metals in soils — mean communities must be careful not to address one problem while creating another.
