Randy Frey

Randy W. Frey is Chief Executive Officer of Frey Research, LLC, which is engaged in the conduct of research and development of proprietary laser technology for therapeutic ophthalmology leading to the commercialization of a medical laser device product. Previously, he founded Autonomous Technologies which began as an R&D company developing laser radar (LADAR) technology for NASA and Star Wars space born tracking applications but later transformed to a commercial medical laser company. As its Chairman & CEO, Mr. Frey took Autonomous public in 1996 (NASDAQ NMS: ATCI) and raised over $50 million for the development, through FDA approval, of the LADAR Vision System, which is now operational at over 500 sites worldwide. His laser has performed over 1 million procedures upgrading the entire LASIK industry to eye tracking, flying spot shaping and customized surgery. In late 2000, Autonomous merged with Summit Technology. ?Shortly thereafter, Alcon, Inc., the largest company in opthalmology, acquired Summit Autonomous for $950 million in cash.  Autonomous and Mr. Frey individually were both inducted into the NASA Space Technology Hall of Fame. Mr. Frey has been granted over two dozen US Patents. He is currently a founding sponsor and Board member of the Rollins College, Crummer Graduate School of Business, Center for Entrepreneurship. Mr. Frey received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University in 1979 and did graduate work toward an MBA at Crummer. On September 29, 2006 he received Polytechnic’s Sesquicentennial Medal. He resides in Maitland, Florida.
