Business & Finance Group | NYU Tandon School of Engineering

Club Description

The Business & Finance Group (BFG) is a student-led organization dedicated to expanding access to business and finance education at NYU. Guided by three core principles: meritocracy over elitism, inclusive programming, and a growth mindset. BFG serves as an incubator for student talent across finance, business, and professional development.

In Spring 2026, BFG launched its Flagship Program, a structured financial boot camp designed to equip students with the technical knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in interview-intensive recruiting processes. The program combines core finance concepts with practical career preparation, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.

Beyond its programming, BFG actively fosters connections between students and professionals through curated networking events, creating opportunities for meaningful engagement with the industry and long-term career development.

Highlights

Technical Strategists View on Career Fulfillment
BFG hosted Enrico Santus, Principal Technical Strategist at Bloomberg, for a conversation on career development at the intersection of technology and finance. Drawing from his background in artificial intelligence (AI) and research at MIT’s CSAIL, Santus offered a nuanced perspective on how technical expertise can translate into impactful and fulfilling careers. The session provided students with exposure to non-traditional pathways in finance and emphasized the importance of aligning technical skills with long-term professional purpose.

Inside the World of Commodities Trading
In this session, BFG welcomed NYU alumnus Nicholas Suri to demystify the commodities trading industry. Through an in-depth discussion of agricultural and energy markets, Suri highlighted how firms such as Cargill and Louis Dreyfus Company operate within global supply chains to transform raw materials into high-value trades. The event offered students practical insights into an often-overlooked sector of finance, while also outlining tangible entry points for those interested in pursuing careers in trading.

Flagship Program - Week 3: Valuation & Investment Basics
As part of BFG’s Flagship Program, Week 3 focused on building core valuation knowledge essential for finance recruiting. The session covered foundational topics including the time value of money, discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, and key valuation multiples such as P/E and EV/EBITDA.
