Global Challenge: How to Deter sexual violence against women in refugee camps?

Abstract:

Throughout my GLASS experience, I undertook a commitment to UNSDG Goal #11, Sustainable Cities and Communities and ultimately changed to UNSDG #5, Gender Equality. While Studying abroad in Indonesia, I was able to learn about many of the socioeconomic and environmental sides of sustainability and gender equality. Learning about their sustainable practices to create a circular economy within their economy. By creating a Green Public Space with multifunctions for initiatives through waste management integrating with urban farming and sustainable business practices. These business practices include making soap with the use of organic waste(making this waste into eco enzymes) and creating healthy frozen foods. My journey also let me to explore various countries and to learn first hand how other countries see the UNSDG’s . Through this all, I was able to better understand the importance of empowering women through different initiates, sustainable practices that can be implemented at my home country, and social initiatives for the future of sustainable development.

Bio:

"Ashley majored in Business and Technology Management at New York University Tandon School of Engineering. She has lived in Queens, New York her whole life(known as the most diverse borough in NY!). Being able to grow up in a dynamic borough has exposed her to so many cultures and perspectives, fostering a deep appreciation for diversity.

As a dedicated member of the Opportunities Program and GLASS Program at NYU, she has had the privilege of shaping my educational journey exposing me to many global perspectives. She is committed to contributing to the UN sustainability goal #5: Gender Equality. She has had the opportunity to learn and witness this issue first hand. From understanding how countries combat this issue such as a nonprofit organization called Teras Hijau Project empowers women through small business initiatives and learning about how to create a circular economy. To learn about Humanitarian engineering in France and how humanitarian aid is essential to help people in refugee camps.

These experiences have allowed me to gain the perspectives of being globally competent and aware of the issues that happen. Ultimately, she hope to use my skills and knowledge to learn more about these global issues and be able to contribute in the enhancement of empowerment for targeted groups"
