Research Professor

An incoming tenure/tenure-track (T/TT) faculty member with a signed NYU appointment offer letter may be issued a courtesy Research Professor affiliation prior to their appointment start date. No vote is needed.

This courtesy Research Professor appointment:

• Is provided to allow incoming T/TT faculty an opportunity to participate in NYU grants and contracts.
• Is an unpaid position that can begin anytime after the T/TT offer letter is signed and before the start of the tenure/tenure-track position. The appointment ends the day before the T/TT faculty position begins.
• Is an appointment that does not include any commitment of salary, fringe, or faculty benefits from NYU or Tandon’s operating budget.

Evidence that their degree requirements are complete by the start date of this courtesy appointment must be confirmed by the hiring department.

All courtesy research professor appointments should be coordinated with Tandon VDR to confirm that all necessary paperwork is completed prior to the appointment.
