Dr. Giuseppe Maria de Peppo is an Industry Associate Professor at New York University Tandon School of Engineering. He earned his PhD in the Department of Biomaterials at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden under the supervision of Prof. Peter Thomsen and Prof. Anders Lindhal, pioneers in the fields of bone and cartilage engineering and repair. During his PhD, he explored the possibility to engineer bone tissue from human pluripotent stem cells for applications in research and therapies. For the multidisciplinary aspect of his doctoral thesis, he was honored with the BestPrize at the Institute of Clinical Science at University of Gothenburg in 2011. Previously, he was a Principal Investigator at the New York Stem Cell Foundation Research Institute and the Director of Internal Research at the biotech startup Mirimus. His research interests include biomaterials, medical devices, stem cells, tissue engineering, nanotechnology, and biosensing. Because of its translational significance, Dr. de Peppo’s research has been featured in several media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, The Verge, Nature, and NBC news.
