Host Department: NYU Libraries/Dibner
Wikipedia can be one of the first places people turn to learn about people, labs, and scientific discoveries. But how can academics contribute to Wikipedia, request corrections, and ensure that information is accurate and properly sourced?
Join colleagues from NYU Libraries for Wikipedia for Academics, a virtual workshop designed to help faculty and graduate students better understand Wikipedia's policies, tools, and editing processes.
Led by NYU Libraries experts, the workshop will cover:
- Creating a Wikipedia user account and navigating its editing tools
- Understanding Wikipedia's core content policies, including guidelines relevant to personal and lab pages
- Requesting edits and corrections to existing articles
- Following proper citation and attribution practices
The session will include a 30-minute walkthrough and Q&A, followed by 20 minutes of optional hands-on support.
Presenters from the NYU Libraries will include:
Alexandra Provo
Research Curation Librarian
Samuel Putnam
Director, Bern Dibner Library
Nicole Helregel
Librarian for Open Science
