Students were tasked with experimenting with alternative data to drive investment decisions. As a financial technology company specializing in traditional data, the firm wanted to expand to alternative data like media and social media. Students did a comparative analysis of media/social media providers including Talkwalker, RavenPack, Factiva, etc.

Students used Brandwatch’s underlying search engine, Crimson Hexagon, to generate case studies. The case studies monitored media/social media volume and sentiment, correlating the sentiment with returns and volume with trading activity.
