Acquiring Medical Billing Codes for Brain Imaging Biomarkers
Medical Imaging
Students helped a MedTech company to analyze the path for obtaining a new medical billing code from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for a new technology in the field of brain imaging biomarkers. Their key tasks included understanding the CMS process, analyzing similar companies that have received codes, identifying key clinical value propositions and operational/financial metrics, and outlining a clinical trial structure. The deliverables included detailed application-related information of the relevant CPT categories, the criteria that CMS would consider in their review process, and the key requirements. Students included a logic diagram for the company to refer to in its further decision-making process. Students also presented a framework for the clinical trial design strategy and for the economic evaluation.
