Abstract

Urban environments, both social and built, contribute to the increased susceptibility of urban dwellers to mental disorders. This study aims to investigate the spatial dynamics of urban stress and its contributing factors. Specifically, we propose to investigate how a complex interplay of environmental and psychosocial factors contribute to stress and other mental disorders among urban residents. We will use available PPGIS platforms to collect crowdsourced data on people's perceptions of urban stress and specific "stressful" locations. We will integrate with urban big data (e.g., Remote sensing) and use advanced analytics to identify and locate stress-related factors in New York City.
