More Top Marks: NYU-Poly ranks top 10 in innovation and racial diversity; top 20 in economic diversity
College and university rankings from publications like US News & World Report are a reminder every fall that making the grade is just as important to educational institutions as it is to the students they teach.
Polytechnic Institute of NYU can add three more items to its list of recent distinctions among national colleges and universities:
According to Computerworld, NYU-Poly is one of 10 “leading-edge graduate schools [that’s] moving at the pace of the IT workplace, delivering coursework that’s relevant to today’s IT professionals.” Carnegie Mellon University, Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania are among the other top 10 innovative schools Computerworld recognized.
NYU-Poly’s rich tradition of racial and ethnic diversity continues to be one of its hallmarks. This year, it scored a 0.70 on U.S. News & World Report’s racial diversity index (the closer a school's number is to 1.0, the more diverse is the student population). NYU-Poly landed behind only Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey and the University of Houston, which scored 0.74 and 0.72 respectively.
Economic barriers to education are an ever-growing concern. NYU-Poly’s place among the top 20 most economically diverse national universities, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report, is recognition that it strives to ensure that bright, promising students have the opportunity to study engineering, science and technology among leading researchers and practitioners no matter their economic background.
These distinctions join those reported in late August by PayScale, a provider of online compensation data, which ranked NYU-Poly seventh in Northeastern U.S. colleges and fourth among engineering schools in the nation with regard to salary potential for undergraduate students upon graduation.
