Injectable gel could be major step toward osteoarthritis treatment
Featured on the morning edition of UPR Live, Jin Kim Montclare discusses her research published this year in Biomaterials that offers a tantalizing possibility for a treatment for arthritis, particularly post-traumatic osteoarthritis, affecting people who have been injured, such as athletes and soldiers. Her work in this case extends research on macromolecules comprising domains of proteins, including self-assembling coiled-coil components.
“It’s hard to fix and alleviate, so we were excited about publishing this because current treatment is limited to alleviating pain, but not reversing damage," explained Montclare, adding how collaboration was key to this process, “We are in NYC and I have lots of colleagues here; I worked with Liu because he has a therapeutic for treating and reversing PTOA."
