How next-gen automation is helping recruiters
Jelena Kovačević, IEEE Fellow and Dean of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, spoke about the advances in automation and predictive technology, acknowledging the possible layers of prejudice that can come with these advances:
“If you don't have a representative dataset for any number of features you decide on, of course you won't find and adequately evaluate candidates. For example, if Black people were systematically excluded in the past or if you didn't have women in the pipeline and you create an algorithm based on that, there's no way the future can be predicted properly. If you only hire from Ivy League schools, then you don't really know how a candidate from a lesser-known school will fare, so there are multiple layers of prejudice.” explained Kovačević.
