Suresh Gupta ,

Prof. Suresh Gupta is an adjunct faculty member teaching graduate courses in the The Tandon School of Engineering. He also teaches in the Executive MBA program at Baruch College.  As the Managing Partner of S. Gupta and Associates, he is an active management consultant. His work experience has included lead partner with PwC Consulting, Capco, and North Highland, and VP at Bankers Trust and Citicorp Investment Bank, and Assistant Professor, Pace University. Dr. Gupta has a Ph.D. in Operations Management, M.S. in Operations Research and B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Suresh has in-depth expertise in operations strategy and management. He has led four research studies on global operating models, two of them in partnership with London Business School and Baruch College. He has published a number of papers on outsourcing, offshoring, financial services factory, payments and contact centers in journals such as Competition and Change, and Journal of Financial Transformation. He is also the author of a vest pocket book on Operations research. He has spoken at many industry conferences and a PBS television program on these topics. As a management consultant, Dr. Gupta has helped many clients in service and manufacturing sectors, in improving their business profitability, customer focus and operational agility by implementing new operating models.  His clients have included Ameriprise, American Express, AT&T, Bank of America, Bell Labs, BNY Mellon, Bi-Lo, Citi, Credit Suisse, Dunn and Bradstreet, Engelhard Chemicals, Fidelity Investments, Morgan Stanley, Oppenheimer Funds, Paine Webber, Schwab, Supervalu, UPS, and Visa.

  1. Lean Manufacturing (developed and taught since 2016): a practical course using the Harvard Case Method; all students complete a hands-on Lean Transformation project in lieu of a final exam.  Past students have secured internships and full-time jobs by showcasing the projects they completed as a part of the course.
  2. Quality Management and Six Sigma (since 2018): a course developed and taught jointly with Professor Paul Linthorst.  The course emphasizes hands-on learning using the Harvard Case Method as well as a term project in lieu of a final exam.  Past students have completed Six Sigma certifications subsequent to taking this course (as well as lean Manufacturing).  Many have secured employment on the strength of the two courses.
