Inspired by the example set by his father, Jonathan Reyes has been motivated to give back to his family once he earns his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Culturally, Jonathan sees this world as a complex, complicated format that should be treated with delicate precision. A recent semester abroad in London allowed Jonathan to better understand how his academic pursuits can be shaped by the surrounding social context, knowledge he believes will place him in a position to be an inclusive leader with a global mindset.
Jonathan knows that it's going to be a huge transition for incoming Black and Latino men attending Tandon, but he urges this population to enter into the STEM world without fear and pursue their academic aspirations in a self-assured manner. He believes if you were to think about how much of an impact you’re going to make once you finish, then that’s all the motivation you need. Jonathan remains steadfast in his truth that with examples of inspiration, achieving your goals will happen.
