Why Young, Gifted, Black Engineer wants to be the Next Mayor of Baltimore


A decade ago Calvin Young was a rising senior at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, one of the city's storied STEM high schools. He also served as cadet commander in Air Force Junior ROTC, and assistant editor-in-chief of the yearbook.

At age 17, Calvin got his first taste of public service when he was accepted as a representative on the Baltimore City Youth Commission.
Today, he officially declared his candidacy for the Baltimore mayoral election, 2016. If elected, Young, a New York University-trained mechanical engineer will be the 50th Mayor of Baltimore City.
