Softball Team Kicks Off Season in Florida
Lady Jays off to 1-4 start
Fort Myers, FL - The NYU-Poly women's softball team kicked off its 2010 season Saturday in the Gene Cusic Softball Classic. The Lady Jays are off to a 1-4 start, as they will play five more games before returning home.
On Saturday, NYU-Poly opened up against the College of Wooster and ended up with an 11-2 loss. After working out some of the first-game jitters, the team, composed of seven freshmen, settled down and gave SUNY-Brockport all they could handle, but eventually suffered a 6-4 defeat.
Sunday, NYU-Poly continued its steady improvement, but struggled to get into the win column. First, the Lady Jays fell to Worcester College 2-0 and later were edged by St. Joseph's College (ME) 4-3. In the night cap, the NYU-Poly bats finally came alive, as they held off Macalester College in route to a 6-4 victory.
NYU-Poly will play five more games before returning home to Brooklyn on Wednesday. Monday the Lady Jays play Lasell College and Roger Williams, while Tuesday they will play Amherst and Curry College, as well as their postponed match against Fredonia State.
