NYU-Poly Rises Through the eRanks at U.S. News and World Report
In its inaugural ranking of online institutions, U.S. News & World Report, widely known for rating educational institutions, ranked NYU-Poly among the best engineering graduate schools in several measures of the quality of distance learning.
In past decade, online education has emerged as an effective alternative to traditional classroom teaching, particularly for professionals who work far from the university of their choice or face difficulties managing busy schedules to attend lecture on campus. US News and World Report estimates that several thousand colleges and universities today offer online education programs. It ranked NYU-Poly among the best graduate engineering schools in two of four selection criteria: student services and technology, in which NYU-Poly rated number 3, and student engagement and accreditation, in which it ranked fifth.
Robert Ubell, Vice president of Enterprise Learning at NYU-Poly, explained the significance of NYU-Poly’s high score in the student services and technology category: “Strong online engineering degree programs offer many technologies and services, such as online access to academic advising and 24/7 tech support. Our NYU-ePoly commitment to providing these services was noted late last year, when the Sloan Consortium named our graduate cybersecurity virtual graduate program the best of all online programs in the country.” NYU-ePoly, the online learning initiative of NYU-Poly, provides 15 online master’s degrees and 56 online courses for certificate and mater’s programs.
For its first survey of online higher education, US News and World Report surveyed only the 323 for-profit and non-for-profit schools that are regionally accredited to conduct online education; 220 institutions provided data.
