Make Way, IT Departments: HR Moving Up the Tech Ladder

Technology has transformed nearly every aspect of how businesses are created and managed, with one surprising area – human resources (HR) – quietly becoming one of the biggest adopters. On Tuesday May 22, 2012, Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) will bring together top practitioners, academics and thought leaders in the areas of HR as well as information and other technologies for a free, half-day conference on the trend.  

The conference, "Game-Changing Technology in Human Capital Management," will offer HR and information technology (IT) executives, managers and professionals, local business owners, entrepreneurs and students the opportunity to learn from some of the country's largest service providers. Conference attendees may also browse a showcase of new products from leading HR and IT technology vendors. Industry recruiters have been invited to join in search of new talent. 

"There's an unprecedented amount of pressure on today's businesses to compete, and having the right talent is a key component to success," explained conference organizer Harold Kaufman, professor in the NYU-Poly Department of Technology Management and director of its organizational behavior graduate program. "We're excited to offer the New York business community the opportunity for a firsthand update on best practices with new technologies that enable organizations to attract, hire and retain the best employees.” 

Kaufman added that the organizers designed the conference for more than HR professionals: Sessions and the expo will also help small businesses that outsource their HR functions.

Industry leaders and academics will discuss social media, cloud computing, mobile devices and workforce analytics, examining their impact on human capital management practices. Presentations will address how new technologies enable and support overall strategy and influence talent management, workgroup collaboration, privacy and globalization.

Miller Associates; Mike Capone, chief information officer, Automatic Data Processing; Jennifer Lego, director, Human Resource Services Delivery Group, Towers Watson; Veronica Barry, director, Human Resources Information Systems, CBS Corporation; Boris Segalis, partner, Information Law Group and  Janyce Wolf, vice president, GBS Business Engineering, Deutsche Bank. 

NYU-Poly Associate Provost for Graduate Academics Walter Zurawsky will also participate, along with members of the NYU-Poly Technology Management Department: Assistant Professor of Technology Management Oded Nov, as well as adjunct faculty members Yael Zofi, CEO, AIM Strategies, Applied Innovative Management; Vincent A. Conte, managing director, Work/Life; and John Reilly, associate director, HRIS, Praxair.

Free online registration is required to attend, and human resource professionals can earn up to 5 recertification credits.
