Home sweet home...in orbit

Paolo Nespoli ('88, '89), a Tandon graduate and mission specialist with the Italian Space Agency flew his third and final mission to the International Space Station in 2017. During that voyage he collaborated with photographer Roland Miller to document the lived space within. A new collection, "Inner Space: A Visual Exploration of the International Space Station," is perhaps the first collaboration at this level between a visual artist on Earth and an astronaut in space, according to MIller. Nespoli took photos of space station locales that Miller "beamed up" (emailed, in terrestrial terms) to him: Google images of the various sites of which the photographer was interested in getting in situ images. Nespoli took the shots and emailed them back to  Miller, who critiqued them. The resulting works are collected in a new book.
