Haiti Earthquake: A Message From NYU-Poly President Jerry M. Hultin

To the NYU-Poly Community:

I'm sure you have been as shaken as I have been by the images and reports coming out of Haiti since Tuesday's earthquake struck the island and the people who call it home.

I write to you today to let you know that we have heard from one of our students who has family in Haiti and is waiting to hear about their safety. I ask that you keep this student and other members of our community who have been affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

As you return to campus, please think of ways you and your friends and colleagues can marshal your resources and ingenuity to help the hundreds of thousands of Haitians in need of support. Engineers Without Borders (EWB), for example, is accepting donations to its projects in Haiti.

While I encourage you to support relief efforts, I also encourage you to be aware of your reaction to this catastrophe and know that our Counseling and Psychological Services center is available during regular hours (M-F; 9 - 5) for individual counseling and referrals. The center will also hold a special session on Jan. 25 at noon in Silleck Lounge for members of our community with family and friends affected by the earthquake and its aftermath.

With deep concern and hope,

Jerry M. Hultin
President
