Fake rental ads are everywhere, and Colorado consumers need to watch out


“There is usually something that engenders trust and makes you want to help them,” said Damon McCoy, an assistant professor of computer science and engineering at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering. McCoy, two years ago, led a research team that examined more than 2 million rental ads posted on Craigslist and dove in on 29,000 that were suspicious, using automated conversation engines to respond.
