Emergency brake vandalism led to NYC subway derailment that injured dozens
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department Chair Katsuo Kurabayashi commented on the fact that each year, hundreds of subway riders pull the emergency brake for no good reason. Last week, that kind of vandalism led to a derailment that injured dozens: “The technology used in New York’s emergency braking system was invented more than a century ago. I think people really need to invest more on safety here, otherwise, we may end up having a really big tragedy in the future.”
