David Miller gets NYC university post

Former mayor David Miller is juggling his Toronto law practice with a new three-year appointment as Future of Cities Global Fellow at Polytechnic Institute of New York University.

Miller said in an interview the institute’s president approached him last fall, after he made a speech in New York in the final days of his seven-year run at the helm of Canada’s biggest city.


The son of two teachers, he said he is looking forward to classroom duties, and being a part-time New Yorker who can commute home, as he did Tuesday to watch his son compete in city track finals.

“I love New York,” he said. “It’s fantastic, it’s exhilarating, but it’s pretty tiring because you end up walking everywhere.”

In a statement, NYU-Poly provost Dianne Rekow said Miller’s “unique insight will guide us as we explore the interplay between intelligent city infrastructure and economic, environmental and social sustainability.”
