Chile Earthquake: A Message From NYU-Poly President Jerry M. Hultin

To the NYU-Poly Community:

As the world watches Chile confront Saturday’s massive earthquake and resulting tsunami, it’s hard to comprehend that another natural disaster has taken hundreds of lives and uprooted millions of people.

The facts and figures of the devastation are still being compiled, but it’s already clear that millions of Chileans will need our support. Some donor groups have expressed concern about “donor fatigue,” the reluctance or financial inability of donors to contribute to Chilean relief efforts so soon after contributing to Haitian recovery efforts. I urge you not to be part of that possible trend and to donate essential funds – at whatever level is possible for you – or to organize fund-raising events.

Coping with catastrophes of this kind is difficult. Our Office of Counseling and Psychological Services and Office of Student Development is here to provide assistance. Do not hesitate to reach out to them: Counseling and Psychological Services: counseling@poly.edu 646.997.3456; Student Development: 646.997.3800.

With deep concern and hope,

Jerry M. Hultin
President
