Biometric Weakness: Many Fingerprint-Protected Devices Can Be Hacked - Report

Researchers at New York University [Tandon School of Engineering] and Michigan State University have developed technology that can crack many of the most common electronic devices, such as cellphones, secured with biometric technologies such as fingerprint scanners. Earlier this year, the researchers completed their project "DeepMasterPrints," which uses machine learning to become a skeleton key of sorts for biometrically secured property. The researchers say DeepMasterPrints can unlock about one-third of smartphones secured in such a way.
