Ability Exchange

The NYU Ability Project invites you to the screening of The Ability Exchange, followed by a discussion with its director, Bing Wang (TSOA ’13) and Allan Goldstein, professor in the Department of Technology, Culture and Society at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. A light reception will follow.

The Ability Exchange is a documentary film about an innovative disability studies course (Disability Studies: CAM 2204) at NYU Tandon where students and self-advocates with cerebral palsy team up to make movies. This observational film illustrates the trajectory of personal growth and bonding that these first-time filmmakers experience, during a journey that blurs the lines between ability and disability and challenges definitions of “normalcy” and “inspiration.” The Ability Exchange invites the viewer to reflect on what it takes to understand and appreciate a person, a community, a culture, and how this exchange of abilities and perspectives empowers lives.
