CSE Seminar with Michael Maloney, Google

Lecture / Panel

For NYU Community

ALL ARE WELCOME. Light refreshments served.

Speaker: Michael Maloney, Google

The new era of “Cloud Computing” is built on top of a solid foundation of large-scale distributed systems. These systems have evolved over many years, and are built  on a mix of solid theory and much sweat from re-learning engineering principles the hard way.

In this talk Maloney will discuss a handful of Google distributed storage systems, and their evolution over time. He will also share stories from the front-lines of maintaining and running these systems and pitch jobs working on these systems at Google!

Bio: Michael Maloney is currently the Technical Lead for Archival Storage and Backups at Google.  He manages a team software engineers and has fifteen years of experience building, running, and debugging large-scale distributed systems at Microsoft and Google. He has a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union, and a M.S. in Computer Science from New York University.
